Providing Relief For Cat Arthritis

Here’s what you can do to relieve your cat's arthritis...

Provide Pain Relievers

Just like in humans, you cannot directly and easily treat osteoarthritis or inflammation of the joints. The only best and most possible way that you can do is to relieve the pain. Hence, try to provide pain relievers to help your cat ease the pain.

There are many pain relievers available, and even those that are used in humans can be used for cats too. However, be wary of the possible side effects that these medicines can bring. For instance, most cats are sensitive to aspirins. Hence, you should administer pain relievers with extra care.

You can also try two of the most common medications used to treat cat arthritis — Chondroitin and Glucosamine. These medicines are known to provide building blocks to cartilage-forming cells known as chondrocytes to facilitate proper synthesis of new cartilage. These medicines are also known to fix the broken cartilage.

Power up with Vitamin C

Enrich your cat’s diets with vitamin C. This particular vitamin has been proven to be effective in controlling and preventing cat arthritis. However, pet owners should also consider the possible effects of vitamin C in cats with lower urinary tract diseases like bladder infections.

Improve their Condition

If you think you cannot help them just because you do not know what they are experiencing, you are wrong. You can help alleviate the pain and suffering they are going through by giving them nice sleeping cots. Cold can put a great impact on their sufferings. Hence, by providing them a warmer place to stay, cats will be able to cope up with the pain that cat arthritis bring them.

Control their Weight

Investing a little in providing your cat some good weight-bearing diets and some stretching moves can improve the life of your cat. Experts say that excess weight can trigger the development of cat arthritis. Stress on the ligaments, joints, and cartilages can expedite their wear and tear. Hence, it is best to watch your cat’s diet. Try not to stuff your cat with foods that will accumulate excess weight.

Keep in mind that cats do not have control on everything that they do, especially with the things that they eat. So it is up to you to manage their health to ensure that they won’t have to battle with cat arthritis not until they are way too old to jump and limp and catch some rats.
