Arthritis is a medical condition wherein the joints become inflamed. The most common symptom of this disease would be pain, swelling, and stiffness in and around the joints. Arthritis can strike at any joint in the body. Therefore, it is possible that two or more body part would ache at the same time. To relieve the pain associated with this disease, it is very important that the right diet is observed.
So, what are the different arthritis diets that patients should follow? There is not one definite diet, but the following suggestions could help.
- Eliminate eggplants, tomatoes, and pepper from your diet. This particular group of food is commonly referred to as the nightshades. The common denominator of all these foods would be the presence of small seeds inside them. It is believed that these seeds contain uric acid that could trigger arthritis attacks. Removing these foods from your daily meal would mean lesser pain from arthritis.
- Add more on alkaline. Alkaline foods eliminate acids. Alkaline is a base solution that counteracts the effects of the acids found in foods like sugar, red meat, coffee, grains, citrus fruits, and nuts. The alkaline suggestion arises from the assumption that arthritis can be caused by too much acid content in the body. When following an alkaline diet, people tend to lose weight too. So this diet is advisable, not only to arthritis patients, but to those who wanted to lose weight as well.
- Consume enough vegetables. To offset the removal of other foods from your daily meals, it is essential that you replace those with the right amount of vegetables. Vegetables are considered to be healthy foods. And although it may not have direct effect on relieving arthritis, it can stop a couple of incidents of attacks altogether.
- Avoid fat and cholesterol. Generally speaking, cholesterol and fats are harmful to the body. And it won’t matter whether you have arthritis or not. You have to make sure that you cut out on fatty foods and all foods that have high cholesterol levels. These two harmful substances are known to trigger many attacks of pains associated to arthritis in many patients.
